Save St Albans Pubs campaigners take Anne Main on a ‘pub crawl’ to some of the 31 St Albans pubs that have been hit by a more than 56% increase in business rates sine 2017.
Last week, we started our drip feed social media campaign, sharing the shocking business rate increases on a number of our pubs and thanks in large part to the email support from you, we were successful in having Anne Main meet with Save Our Pubs and in St Albans on Friday 16thNovember.
Anne walked with us from the Blacksmiths Arms to the Boot and then down George Street through Verulamium Park to Ye Olde Fighting Cocks and The Six Bells in St Michaels. We stopped along the way at Beech House, the Boot, Suckerpunch, Dylans and took a side tour to view the Black Lion and Blue Anchor pubs, sold for residential development.
We used posters and banners along the tour to shout out the need for urgent action from Parliament and we are grateful to the pubs who put the message up on the door or window.
“The outcome of the meeting with Anne Main was extremely positive. Anne has agreed on record to present our petition at Parliament. Save St Albans Pubs is now working hard to put together a focused brief, with input from Camra and the CutBeerTax campaign.”
